I wanted to mention a very interesting topic I heard today that really resonated with me. It is the 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, Confidence... written by Mel Robbins. This is a tool that supposedly can help you be your best self.
The basic premise is that we have wisdom/our inner voice /conscience constantly pointing us in the right direction thousands of times per day, and most often, we let our brain talk us out of it. Usually it is something we need to do, but don't want to do, so it is easy to talk ourselves out of it. It can affect our businesses, relationships, health, etc. But, if every time we hear that wise inner voice directing us, instead of letting our brain talk us out of it, just count down from 5 and then just do it. We already know what we should be doing, and this will push us to just do it. It could help us do those tasks that we know should be done, and not put it off.
It could help us not have that argument with our spouse, or it could help us not eat that piece of cake and workout instead. I know that all day long I have thoughts or ideas on something that I know I should do, but within a minute I have talked myself out of it and procrastinated. I am going to give this a try and will report back if I have success. I am hoping that I can get more done and be more successful with this tactic, and maybe build some really good productivity habits.
